| Comments: | Relaxing on Chamberlain and Bluebird in North Port,FL in broad daylight. Did not look happy when we interruppted him. Looked at us and ran quite quickly into the woods. Monitor identified from photograph at University of Florida IFAS Extention (http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/). Highly probably it is a Nile monitor, but the species cannot be determined from the photographs (Dr. Kenney Krysko, Univesity of Floirda, and Dr. Todd Campbell, University of Tampa, personal communication). Vouchered at FLMNH as Varanus sp. |
