| Comments: | After going over the bridge and the area where all the trails are, where the speed limit is still 55 MPH, before the area where it becomes 35 MPH. On the left side of the road in the grass, outskirts of the forest. First I saw it's long, slender tail. It's tail fur was longer that it's body's fur, but it was not big and bushy like a squirrel's tail. It was a brownish color, slightly gray. It was too big to be a squirrel, definitely something weasely. It's ears were short and round, not sticking up above it's head like a dog or cat. It's legs were too far off the ground to be a mink or weasel, and it also looked bigger than them. It then stood up on it's hind legs, just like a Meerkat. I would have stopped and tried to take a picture, but I was driving to work. Larry Connor, FWCC, sent a photo lineup including two different mongoose species, ferret, and fox squirrel. The reporter indicated that the photo of the Indian mongoose most resembled what she saw. |
