Hello IPANErs,
Eric von Wettburg one of our fellow volunteers from Rhode Island has brought to my attention that there is going to be a invasives control event in RI in April. This is the perfect opportunity for those of you who live close by, and perhaps not so close by to get your hands around the neck of an invasive plant or two. Please respond to the folks at the end of this message if you are interested. Do Not Reply to IPANE.
Chris
Join the Rhode Island chapter of the Sierra Club on Saturday, April 16th, for a pre-Earth Day Invasive Plant removal project at the Alton Jones campus of the University of Rhode Island, in West Greenwich, RI. We will be tackling three species of invasive escaped ornamental shrubs -Japanese Barberry, Multiflora Rose, and Winged Euonymus - that alter that structure and wildlife habitat value of New England forests.
We will meet at 10 am at the Nettie Jones classroom. After a brief training session, we will break into coordinated groups that will go to assigned locations on the campus where we have identified invasive infestations.
Afterwards, join us for the Soup and Bread Earth Day Dinner at 6pm at Westminster Unitarian Church, 119 Kenyon Ave, E. Greenwich. This is a great event for all folks concerned about the environment in RI. A six dollar donation for Soup, Bread, Dessert, Coffee and Tea, and extra donation for beer or wine is requested. The dinner will feature a slide show of Underwater RI. Co-sponsored by Sierra ClubRI, AMC and Green Sanctuary Group of WUC.
