Appearance
Hieracium glomeratum is a perennial herbaceous plant in the sunflower family. The rounded leafless stems contain a milky sap and range from 12-27.6 in. (30-70 cm) tall. H. glomeratum is native to Europe.
Foliage
The leaves have very short simple hairs, which give the leaves and the lower part of stems a soft-lanuginose (downy/wooly) appearance. Leaves have somewhat numerous stellate hairs on the upper surface of leaves. Leaves are oblong-spatulate to lanceolate and up to about 7 in. (18 cm) long.
Flowers
The small flower heads are often held in an umbel. The yellow ray flowers resemble dandelions.
Fruit
The dandelion like seeds H. glomeratum of have long hairs to aid in dispersal by wind.
Ecological Threat
H. glomeratum outcompetes native species and invades along roadsides, forest clearings, open fields, pastures and other disturbed sites.
