Native to the Ohio River basin.

Life Cycle
F. rusticus mate in early spring, late summer or early fall while females lay eggs until the next spring. Eggs will hatch 3-6 weeks after laying.

Distribution
Established in twenty states, F. rusticus is expanding outside its native range within the United States. States include Colorado, Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.

Control Efforts
Anglers and boaters can prevent the spread of F. rusticus by not using them as bait, inspecting and cleaning gear and equipment, and never transporting live crayfish from one body of water to another.
