Origin
Geochelone sulcata is native to Africa. African spurred tortoise are commonly kept as pets in the United States.

Life Cycle
Aptly named because of the spurs on their hind legs, G. sulcata is the largest mainland tortoise. Males can reach up to 200 lbs (91 kg) while females can weigh up to 90 lbs (41 kg). G. sulcata reaches sexual maturity at the age of 15. Females lay 15-30 eggs in a clutch that are incubated underground for approximately 8 months. African spurred tortoise has a life span of 80-100 years.

Distribution
Sightings of G. sulcata are recorded throughout Florida.
