Appearance
Callicarpa dichotoma is a deciduous rounded or weeping shrub from 3-4ft in height.

Foliage
Leaves are opposite, simple, 2-4 in. long, obovate with serrate margins. Leaves are green, turning yellow in the fall.

Fruit
Fruits are round purple fleshy berries when mature, in clusters attatched at the nodes of the stem.

Ecological Threat
Callicarpa dichotoma has the potential to spread from planted specimens to surrounding areas by birds and wildlife spreading its seed. Native to Korea and Japan, this species is introduced by escaping from landscape plants.

Compared to North America's native American Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana)
Leaves on C. dichotoma are smaller and more elongate than the native C. americana. Fruits on C. dichotoma are smaller and clustered farther away from the stem than C. americana, on which the fruit clusters are tightly packed against the stem. The native C. americana tends to form a larger shrub than the invasive C. dichotoma as well.
