Origin
Ara severus is native to South America. Chestnut-fronted macaw were introduced to the United States likely as escaped or intentionally released pets.

Life Cycle
A. severus are mainly green in plumage with red patches on the shoulders and blue patches on the wings. The eyes are yellow. Chestnut-fronted macaw are 15.6-19 in. (40-49 cm) in length and weigh 10.7-13.5 oz (307-387 g). A. severus have a long lifespans of 30 years or more. During breeding season, females lay 2-3 eggs in tree cavities. Incubation lasts 24-26 days. Young hatchlings fledge at about 3 months of age but will remain with parents.

Distribution
A. severus are found in south Florida.

Control Efforts
The effects of A. severus on native species needs more research. Never release an unwanted pet into the wild.
