Origin
Aratinga acuticaudata is native to South America. Blue-crowned parakeet were introduced to the United States when they escaped captivity.

Life Cycle
A. acuticaudata are primarily green in plumage color with a light pink beak with a black tip, blue-blue green feathers around the forehead and cheeks, and a prominent white ring around the eye. The underside of wings is yellowish-green in color and the tail has yellow and red feathers. Adult A. acuticaudata is 11-12 in. (28-30 cm) in length and approximately 7 oz (0.2 kg) in weight. A. acuticaudata are social birds with flocks of up to 100 individuals. Females lay 2-3 eggs in a clutch with nests located in tree cavities. Eggs hatch after approximately 26 days of incubation and fledging occurs after 52 days.

Distribution
A. acuticaudata are established with breeding populations in Florida and California.

Control Efforts
There are no known effects of A. acuticaudata on native species.
