Origin
Native to Eurasia and North Africa.

Appearance
B. vulgaris is an herbaceous biennial plant from 1–2.5″ (2.54–6.35 cm) tall.

Foliage
Flowering stalks of B. vulgaris are hairless and light green to reddish-purple in color. Basal leaves are up to 6″ (15.24 cm) long and 2.5″ (6.35 cm) in across.

Flowers
Flowers consist of 4 yellow petals in large abundance with a mild scent. Blooming occurs during mid-spring to early summer lasting approximately 1 month. Flowers are replaced by seeds after bloom.

Fruit
Seedpods are angular-cylindrical approximately 0.75–1″ (0.75-2.54 cm) long. Plants spread by reseeding.

Ecological Threat
B. vulgaris is found in highly disturbed areas (e.g., cropland, construction sites, alongside roadsides and railroads).
