Origin
Trachemys scripta scripta is native to the southeastern United States from southeastern Virginia to northern Florida and east to Alabama. Yellow-bellied sliders were introduced throughout its nonnative United States range as escaped or intentionally released pets.

Life Cycle
T. scripta scripta have a large yellow blotch behind the eye for easy identification. Yellow-bellied sliders are approximately 4.9-11 in. (125-289 mm) in length. T. scripta scripta are diurnal turtle species that are omnivorous in diet, and semiaquatic. Breeding occurs in water with females later laying eggs on land.

Distribution
Populations of T. scripta scripta are found in Arizona, California, Florida, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

Control Efforts
Interbreeding with other T. scripta subspecies occurs compromising genetic integrity.
